Applications
Rheumatoid Arthritis
The radiographic assessment of Rheumatoid Arthritis is based on the bone and cartilage losses, which correspond respectively to bone erosion and joint-space narrowing. These radiodiagnostic criteria can be quantified using specific scoring (cf. Sharp Scoring, modified by Van Der Heidje, 1992).
Osteoarthritis
The radiographic assessment of Osteoarthritis is based on the cartilage loss, which corresponds to joint-space narrowing (JSN). These radiodiagnostic criteria can be quantified using specific joint space width (JSW) measurement to evaluate the stage of the disease and adapt therapeutic treatment and follow-up.
The combination of BMA image and the Optasia knee Analyzer software allows the JSN quantification and sub-chondral tissue analysis.
Osteoporosis
Based on the 1993 WHO (1) definition of Osteoporosis : « a systemic skeletal disease characterised by low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, with a consequent increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture », BMA provides a powerful tool for bone MicroArchitecture Quantification (MAQ), using Fractal Texture Analysis (FTA) independent of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) measurement.
